What You Need to Know About Your Nissan Key Fob
So you've lost your Nissan key fob or the device stopped working. Before you panic or contact the dealer, look back and check where you last saw it.

Smart Keys
The key fob that was included with your Nissan is an essential component of the car's advanced keyless entry system. It connects to the vehicle's electronic system to open doors or start the engine, and comes with a handy design that's easy to carry around. A key fob comes with additional convenience features, such as locks out protection. This function ensures you don't accidentally leave your vehicle with the keys inside.
As opposed to earlier models of key fobs which required you to insert the key in the ignition slot to access your vehicle's onboard systems, smart keys function wirelessly. Nissan detects when you are near your vehicle and activates the Intelligent Key's internal functions. This could include opening or locking the doors, raising and lowering the tailgate, or even starting the engine.
Some smart key models include an invisible valet key made of metal. The key can be removed from a release located on the back of Smart Key fobs to lock the trunk or glovebox before giving it to a valet. Intelligent Key Fob
With the Nissan Intelligent Key Fob, you can open your car's doors and begin its engine with the push of an button. It also allows you to activate presets to meet your preferences. For example you can alter the seat and mirrors to ensure maximum comfort. You can also control the music from your phone so that you don't need to leave your car.
Intelligent Key Fobs include an antenna built-in that sends an alert to your car when you touch a button or move towards it. When your vehicle receives this signal it activates the system, unlocking or locking doors, beginning the engine, as well as opening the trunk. If you'd like to test out the fob, stand a distance away from your vehicle, and then press the buttons. If the lights flash, or the horn sounds sound, you have successfully programmed the Intelligent Key Fob.

To do this, first remove the key that is hidden from your key fob. Then, access the battery compartment. Remove the battery that was in it, then place a brand new one in its place. Assure that the positive side of the new battery faces in the same direction as it did with the previous one. Finally close the compartment for the battery and return the key to its hidden place inside the case.
Remote Start
Nissan remote start is a feature that permits drivers to warm up or cool their vehicle from outside of the vehicle, if they are within the operating range. The ignition of the car is activated by pressing an appropriate button on the key fob or mobile application. Remote start systems can also trigger climate control that allows the driver to set their preferred temperature. Certain systems have two-way communication, which lets the driver be aware of what's happening inside their vehicle.
If the remote start function of your car isn't functioning, the most likely reason is the low power of the battery. The key fob uses a small, replaceable battery that lasts approximately two years before it has to be replaced. Flip your fob over, and press the hidden latch on the backside of the keypad. After the keypad has been opened remove the batteries and replace them with new ones. Lockout Protection
Lockout protection can prevent the nuisance of lockouts that are caused by the impedance relay failing. A special module within the power control unit is able to monitor the activity of the impedance relay and then disables the output. This feature is available on vehicles equipped with the Smart Key system, or via the personalization menu.
Many serious accidents have occurred as a result of a machine started up when it was supposed to be turned off to prevent maintenance or repairs. These incidents are typically caused by energy that was not released correctly. Lock-out tag-out (LOTO) systems help prevent these incidents by ensuring that machines are completely off until the person who is authorized releases them.
The LOTO system consists of a variety of locks tags, locks and other devices that are used to isolate, secure or block the machine from electrical sources. All "affected" and "authorized" personnel must be trained in the use of these lockout/tag-out devices. These devices include but aren't only chains, locks padlocks and wedges, adapter pins, and self-locking fasteners. Each device is singularly identified and labeled, with the date and the time of application along with the name of the person authorized and the reason behind the lockout/tag-out (repair or maintenance, for example). It must be clear that these devices can't be removed until a complete LOTO procedure has been completed.
